The Third Congress on Protected Areas Mesoamerican is a forum driven Commission on Environment and Development, which seeks make known the achievements and strengths of national systems of protected areas in the region of Mesoamerica: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Republic and southeast of the southern region of Mexico.

The main central objective of this Third Congress, is to promote dialogue and exchange of experiences among governments, institutions and local communities to consolidate and strengthen national and regional systems of protected areas and sensitize decision makers to local residents and the public about the importance of protected areas as an instrument of social and economic development in Mesoamerica, global challenges it faces.
